What If Food Had Feelings?

What If Food Had Feelings?

This is the question the new animated film, release date August 2016, asks.

It's the brainchild of a bunch of young Hollywood turks who screened it at last weekend's SXSW annual Film/Tech/Music festival in Austin, Texas.

Storyline: the male lead, the Hot Dog Frank, reveals to the female lead, Bun Betty (I am not making this up, folks!) that food is something that the "Shopping Gods" take home to eat.

If you ask me, this is a simple case of what happens to our talent pool with the legalization of medical marijuana. My opinion aside, this film boasts some heavyweight talent beginning with composer Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast).

Episode 15 Paris GOOD food + wine

For this Episode of Paris GOOD food + wine we'll be starting right out of the gate with a tribute to Paris Fashion Week. Paris Fashion Week takes place twice a year, in October and March, with March seeming to offer Big, Splashy, Well-attended shows.

And what goes better together with French fashion than French champagne?!

logo_champagne_collet-250x218

Champagne Collet is a champagne house located in a small village just at the foot of the Montagne de Reims region of Champagne, France.

For this show we'll be talking to Antrim Duncan about Champagne Collet's Esprit Couture label. As part of the house's export and marketing division, she'll explain to us how there's more to Esprit Couture than just a label and how haute couture and Champagne Collet have much in common.

Next up you'll get to walk with Pastry Chef Christian Boudard as I accompany him through their brand new kitchens. Christian Boudard is the pastry chef for Guy Savoy at their sparkling new digs, the prestigious Monnaie de Paris.

This is three-Michelin starred chef Guy Savoy's newest home in Paris and where the space allowed for them to build out breathtaking kitchens that include a whole section devoted just to the making of their signature Brioche.

In my recent 10BEST review of their new brioche bakery/boutique located a stone's throw from the new restaurant, I mentioned that,.. "until you've tasted a Guy Savoy brioche, you haven't tasted a brioche."

Chef Boudard, head of the pastry division here for a dozen or more years now, explains to us the innerworkings of how they achieve this masterful culinary feat.

And, our final feature for today's show is all about the BBQ, Texas BBQ that is. With several of my family members having recently moved to Texas, it seems all I hear about these days is Texas-style bbq. So, when I heard about this young MBA's start-up devoted to Texas BBQ here in Paris, I just had to find out more. She'll be dishing up the goods for us here, Southern Style.

So stay tuned for another tasty episode of Paris GOOD food + wine.

Gout de Brioche details:

Even if you aren't budgeting for a 3-Michelin starred lunch or dinner this week, you can still enjoy a whole gobful of goodness by stopping by the brioche bakery, the Gout de Brioche, which is located on the picturesque rue Mazarine at numero 54, right in the heart of St. Germain. The sweet-flavored brioche make wonderful beakfast, brunch and afternoon snacks while the savory brioche are delicious appetizers for lunch or dinner.

Les Délices de Tokyo - Go See The Film!

One of the most poetic films to come along in a long time...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_ySsqUptJs

Dorayakis are a sort of Japanese cake. It is two small pancakes filled with the traditional Japanese treat, sweet red bean paste, in the middle.

This film is about Dorayakis but more pointedly about human warmth and the fragility of life, the triumph of the human spirit.

If you loved Tampopo, you will savor this film.

Superb!

Wonderful Japanese film about pastry making and the sweetness in the depths of the human spirit.

Happy New Year!

Here's to a fantastic start to 2016 for Parisians and all people around the world.
For this episode of Paris GOOD food + wine, I'm bringing you two in-depth interviews with fascinating personalities who contribute to the Paris culinary landscape just by being themselves.
First up we'll be hearing from talented chocolatier and sculptor, Patrick Roger. When you first get a glimpse of his chocolate sculptures that grace his chic boutiques at some of Paris' trendiest addresses you can't help but marvel at the fact that such a work of art was crafted out of chocolate.

Even the Musée Rodin took notice and approached the chocolate maker-sculptor about teaming up for November's re-opening of the Paris Rodin Museum.
I caught up with the sculptor on the evening of that re-opening back in November with the intention of trying to get inside his artist's head. The result is a fascinating glimpse into how a passion for chocolate fueled this artist's love for sculpture and vice-versa.

Next up we'll be hearing from the young and dashing chef Rafael Gomes. After stints in New York, followed by Menton, on the Cote d'Azur, this native Brazilian is now heading up a new restaurant in the Marais. The restaurant is called Le Grand Coeur, which, of course, means The Big Heart, in French. It's executive chef-ed by Mauro Colagreco, for whom he worked at Mirazur down in Menton just prior to helping open up this brasserie in Paris last August.

Lastly, I've resurrected a report I did while researching my documentary film about Wine and Climate Change back in 2012. At the conclusion of December's COP 21 climate talks held just last month here in Paris, there has been much hailing of successful resolutions to ward off excessive carbon emissions that many scientists claim are contributing to global warming. The audio I've lifted from my short film presentation addresses this issue. It followed on an International NY Times special report I did in 2011 on that very subject, namely wine and the effects of climate change on this delicate crop.
With this December here in France being one of the warmest in recent memory, where pictures from Champagne, France's northernmost viticultural region, show flowers blooming in the cote des blancs in December, as if it were already Spring, this issue seems to be even more relevant today.
